Coin Ring Punch. No2 (up to 40mm Diameter).
Specifically designed for punching a perfectly centred hole in the following coins, morgan dollar, half crown, two shilling and one shilling will fit directly into the recess in the top of the body, (the lower part), using a reduction ring if necessary. A reduction ring for a Morgan Dollar, Half Crown, Two shilling and One shilling coins are supplied. Any coin smaller than the recess (40mm) can be used by simply making a temporary reduction ring from thin card and a compass as the cap of the tool clamps the coin during punching, the reduction ring only centres the coin.
The body of the tool is steel, oil hardened to assist in rust prevention, light oiling is recommended particularly when not in use, the cap is made from anodized aluminium and dyed.
The coin is placed in the recess in the top of the body using a reduction ring if required and the cap is screwed down, clamping the coin, the reduction ring is only required to centre the coin. An appropriate punch, with its sleeves if needed is/are placed into the tool. An arbor or hydraulic press is the best method of punching, but the tool can be placed in a stout engineering vice, closing the vice until the hole is punched. The punch can be hammered through, but this method is not recommended.
The tool comes with a 15mm and a 10mm punch which are made from tool steel. The punches have a slight angle to the face which provides a shearing action when punching. 15-10mm upper and lower reducing sleeves are provided for the 10mm punch.
